UPVC WINDOW AND DOOR REPAIRS
Professional repair service in Hull
UPVC Window Problems
- Hard to close
- Condensation between panes
DRAUGHTY WINDOWS ARE CAUSED BY 3 THINGS
- Hinges bent or broken?
- Sash not tight up enough to gasket seals?
- Locking mechanism failure?
Hinges eventually need to be replaced due to corrosion. The hinged corners do not meet up together properly which leaves and small gap between frame and rubber gasket seals causing air to pass through or sometimes causing a high pitch noise.
As with UPVC doors if the window has a side opener the sash should be heel and toed.
CONDENSATION BETWEEN GLASS
If you have water inside your glass units, your UPVC double glazed glass has lost its manufactured seal. This may have been caused with age, blocked or lack of drainage within frame, allowing water to travel under and away through internal window drainage system, however if the drainage is blocked or not drilled out correctly the water stays stagnent and when the sun heats up it causes capillary action to occur and the unit soaks up moisture inside panes.
OUR REPAIR SERVICES
All doors and windows are repaired using total heel and toeing procedure, all panels, sashes or glass units are always packed up correctly and locking compressions always adjusted as standard. When glass units are replaced we always carry out a drainage check. Testing with water to make sure water drains away properly. If we find a problem we always drill out additional holes to ensure units do not fail in future.
If this is not done, units will fail again much sooner than the previously replaced units.
UPVC DOOR PROBLEMS
Main cause is door not being heel and toed properly:
- Handle hard to lift up?
- Door catching on bottom or topside?
- Lock mechanism not working, not locking?
Doors are the extremely heavy and although they have heavy duty hinges on one side there is a dead weight on handle side which is not supported, so you must
heel and toe to secure the sash, fitting plastic packers in a specific way to counter balance the stress preventing the sash from dropping.
SETTING THE DOOR LOCKING COMPRESSION
All door locks and sub frames must be aligned correctly and have the correct compression when the handle is lifted, enabling easy operation and preventing undue stress to lock mechanism.
If the lock mechanisms and keeps do not line up correctly, this causes stress on the spindle housing in the centre locking mechanism causing fatigue and ultimate failure of locks leaving the door jammed or not lockable.
We replace all makes and models of door or window locking mechanisms and if your existing locks are discontinued we can ALWAYS
offer a conversion option thus reducing the need of full frame replacement.
